Foil Finish Cranks
I have noticed that quite a few guys on here make their own baits. I thought it would be something fun to do in the off season and try to get rid of this cabin fever. I really like the looks of the foil finish on some of the handmade balsa cranks. Anyone know where I can find some info on how to try to do that? Thanks!

they do sell foil tape at hardware store, but if you use some spray glue on the bait then lightly press foil onto it, making sure you get minimal creases, it usually comes out real nice

I am yet to try it, but I do understand the concept and it can be quite time consuming compared to just painting blanks...Here's the basics:
step1) cover your bait with a light epoxy and then mask the entire bait with a foil..I hear the cheap dollar store stuff works best step2) cover foil with a sealer or clearcoat--let dry step3) paint step4) cover with 2nd coat of clearcoat BTW...these are my latest works...sorry no foiled work...YET

Those look awesome!! How many clear coats do you have to put on those baits? The second and third picture especially looks like the lure paint is in a "bubble". I am just starting; do you have any good references for a beginner to learn how to make baits?
I can't wait to post some pictures of my first baits!! |

for my area, the first 2 would work great as a bass imitator, but would also be nice to see the 2nd paint job on the 4th slim lure.... great job!!
will be nice to see if anyone has any foil baits on here... |

Dang, Jason, those are works of art! Absolutely beautiful!
Lately I've been thinking more and more about trying my hand at that. I already make my own jigs and spinnerbaits. I may just have to try it.
