bare bank fishin
catching fish off a completely bare bank is something we all face during winter draw downs.-or summer droughts in this case - more so during the fall bass fishin season.. the bass are feeding shallow during the blue back herring spawning. which-for here- is typically last 2 weeks of sept and the first 2 weeks of october..
schools in -take notes-the bass are biting and the godfather is preachin.. lets get a typical bank. do ya see the fish holding struture here?? it is the lil stick ups, -in this case- a bucket, and the lil mini point sticking out in the lake.. water depth is SKINNY and clear. working all of the visable struture throughly with hard baits. this may get you a fish but do NOT move till you fish back through it with a spider grub or a baby paca.. does it work ?? well yeah! caught this lil feller second pass thru the above struture -i actually worked 4 baits thru the above struture- of course my favorite 2 baits for bare banks-lizzy don't look.. the tiny 1/8oz square billed clunn money maker and a 1/4oz strike king -carolina chip repaint-the same bait lizzy has nightmares about btw.. i caught 18 bass doing this today big about 3 pounds not huge but fun.. zooker

Throwing a deep runner like a DT-10 in crawfish or shad color is always worth a throwing. One of my favorite ways to fish a crank is to throw a deep runner shallow.

Deep runner shallow? Excuse my inexperience and ignorance.. How does one accomplish this. I'm pretty sure i would bury my deep runners if I tried to run 'em shallow

To throw a deep runner shallow is too pick a crank that will dive deeper than the wateryou are fishing, say you select a crankbait that will run 10ft and fish it in say, 5ft. It will stir up the bottom like no other and it looks just like a crawdad zipping along the bottom.

I would put a broken back rapala on in black/ silver and work the parralel edge. Far deep outside reserved for a countdown rapala..
That would be my strategery...Or maybe a big O since it is ideal for these conditions. Capt Mike

the trick with a deep diver shallow is bottom struture. as reb knows ya don't over gun skinny water if there is alot of weeds present..both my self and reb fish fairly barren lakes -thats lakes with no weeds..

Its cuz ya'll waters won't let the sunshine in for weeds to grow.I have been neglecting to respond to this post , until today.I got my new glasses, thought it said bare back fishing before I got my new glasses.Thought maybe ya hooked up with a gal that appreciates the finer things in life, like fishing.I have been standing on the rock, waiting for my seeds to grow. Often times a bare bank can be the place to catch fish especially when there are alot of anglers on the water. They will pass up the bare bank and go to a more productive looking area.

bassnman is right.. most of the "known" spots get taken early in the am. the bare banks are always a good choice for a second spot or so..
