Default daiwa rod... HELP

I have this daiwa triforce-X rod model TF-X601MRB-A M lure 1/4-3/4oz line 8-17lb test. In the past I used it as a c/b and s/b rod. What I know for sure is its not a soft plastic rod, because once I used a fluke on it and man.... a 6-8# bass hit it and I couldn't set the hook at all. The fish was coming at me and that didn't help but the initial hook set would have brought him in. ANY, recommendation for this rod? You can't find it any more, I usually use a daiwa 103super tuned advantage on it. What would you do with it? Its' soo short. Im thinking close-in fishing. I need help deciding, it's too good of a rod to just let it set on the rod holder.

Navy-is a 6 footer? I'm guessing it is looking at the model number. If so, it might be great for a topwater or spinnerbait rod where you need to be real accurate. Also, sometimes it is easier to use a walking bait like a Zara Spook with a shorter rod.
