Default I got the Claw!

Over my Holidays I got a little thing called the claw. The guy's who have bait casters and use them alot know what I mean! Feels like arthritis in my fingers. for the last few days it cramps up like an eagle tallon!.the hand that holds th reel when you reeling in the line. Must have made over 10,000 casts on my vacation for two weeks it felt like I was in a tourny every day. Any one else get the "CLAW". I bet all you old fellers get it!

I get it quite often, actually more with a big flyrod even than with my baitcasters. Its real bad if you are using a pistol grip rod, like for instance I sometimes use my Dads 30 year old speed stick with a grey garcia 5000c for topwaters, man it will start hurting after an hour or so. Whats the real shame is I have a genetic predisposition for arthritis, my Mom has already had 3 surgeries on her hands to repair damage - gonna be rough when I get old. If I were smart I'd quit fishing or just use ultralights. But whats life without baitcasting gear?

no, I dont get it..yet at least. My wrists will kill me after fishing all day though. I had it hurt so bad one day I could barley crank the reel.

You probably get this because you are not casting with two hands. Also you can try switching off between a left hand retrieve and a right. THis is what I do to prevent this.

Red face

Having rhumatoid arthritus since the age of 13 , I can relate
For some immediate relief try running hot water over the hand , it will only last about 20 minutes but gives some relief.
Other than anti inflamatory meds, you may go to the drugstore and get some Capasin or BenGay, along with Tylenal Arthritis caps.
I take a once a week drug treatment and also twice aday take anti inflames.
It used to really bug me before tourneys that I would get it, I have it all over my body, all joints, but I get through it ok, I wouldn't wish it on any one

You're supposed to give the little feller a break every once in awhile. How would you like to stand at attention for 2 weeks straight. Give him a break, and your wrist will get a break also

It doesn't happen to my fingers usually, but it gets to my wrists sometimes and it just aches a heck of a lot.
