Default made up my mind

I am going with the shimano curado 200e5 and the lucky craft fat mini magic, I will be fishing mostly cranks similar to the bandit 200 and bomber model A, and fat free shad type lures, I will not be cranking anything over 10 ft deep so I hope I made a good choice now I just need to get some line advice, what kind and what lb test. Thanks for any help

For me the choice is P-Line Flouroclear, a flourocarbon coated copoly line that has a small diameter, is supple yet strong, and has some of the benefits of flourocarbon without being stiff like flourocarbon. I prefer 12 pound test for most of my crankin needs.

A high quality FC line in about 12-15lb test is what a lot of the pro's use for this technique. Good luck finding a FC that meets all your needs, like finding a needle in a haystack.

Sounds like it's gonna be a killer combo for cranks, glad you made your mind up!

As far as line, I'm using 12lb XL on my cranking rig, all though I haven't used it much, I like it so far, and it's definitely very soft and limp line.

I'd also check out floro clear like keith suggested, it nice thin line, and fluoro coated so it'll get em down a little faster then straight mono. Sunline super natural is also and extremely thin line mono.

I think 12lb is gonna be your best bet. It's relatively thin, and yet strong enough for big fish if you've gotta good drag.

What ever line you go with, look for these qualities.
-Thin
-Limp
-Long casting

Some people would also throw sinking into the list, as that will get down deeper, but that also entails getting fluoro (or copoly).

Good choice on the E5, it is a great cranking reel, especially at the sale price. I picked up a E7 to go with my E5 this weekend. I've always been curious about the LC rods, never actually seen one in person though.

Memory is less of a concern on a cranking set up for me. The drag of the bait on a tight line will eliminate memory pretty quick. I prefer something that is thin with good abrasion resistance. You can afford to use a lighter line if you use a tough line, which will get the bait down deeper. I like my cranks to dig into the bottom and crash into stuff, a tough line is important. Checking for frayed line often and retying regularly is important too.

I've currently got 12lb Pline CXX on my deep cranking setup and 12lb Pline Voltage on my shallow rod. Yo Zuri Hybrid is a line I've been meaning to try on a cranking rod. It is tough as nails but has quite a bit of memory. I really like 12lb for most cranking.

I talked to Chuck and he said:

And he said you can't go wrong with CXX-#12. At least that is what I think he said. The mesmerizing beard always throws me off.

I went with a Powell 703cb glass rod and I am going to try seaguar invizX 12lb test line.
