Default A few days after work...

Over the past week I have had several chances to go out to the creek a mile or so from my house and try to catch the good size bass I keep swimming in there... I have tossed just about everything I had.. cranks, swimbaits, jigs, worms, senkos and so on. It is too small of an area to burn anything back like a spinner bait so they are useless...

Finally after stalking them for a few weeks, I pulled in the main bass that would come right up to my baits, open his mouth and put maybe 1/2" in his mouth then drop it immediately and ignore it the rest of the time... it took a small 1/4 oz. neon green maribou jig with the hook towards the very back... when he stuck it in his mouth I set the hook and brought him in. Almost thought I would lose him too, was only using 6 lb Pline CX clear. The way he was fighting was putting all sorts of strain on the entire line and rod.. but I brought him in.

17" long, right at 3 pounds. Only had my cell phone (with camera) and with my wet slimy hands I couldn't get a pic without sliming up my phone. That and it took him at least 5 minutes before he would settle down enough where I could even lip him, he was just going crazy...

I did decide to keep him for a fish fry as there are at least 4-6 other bass in this creek area that are his size and bigger, and the spawn is done with so they did their job.

I did get out there again today and since he is gone, there were a few 12" carp hanging around and the other bass were more relaxed than when he was around (except when the big one cruised by, they all swam out of the way). Next task is to nail the big one just to say I did.
