What unusual baits do you throw!
By unusual I mean something that is out of the norm, maybe comething you make yourself. Here are few of mine.
These are 4 " and are a flat pour on one side, they work great on a dropshot or just weightles with a #2 Wide gap with 6-8# floro. I got them on Ebay and they are not made anymore.

I melt baits! I just get two plastics, cut them in half, and then melt the two together! Works good! I'll post pics of them when I get home (I'm at school now).

What is that, Raul? A slug? Looks to be only an inch or two long, going by the writing behind it.

A tail less grub ( Yamamoto and Damiki manufacture them ), itīs about 2 inches long, originally designed as a crappie bait is deadly on LMB when they donīt want anything ( including the kitchen sink ). T-exposed rigged "backwards" ( inserting the hook by the pointy end ) with a size 1 EWG hook makes the bait sink away from you and glide underneath cover.
The only drawback the bait has is that due to itīs small size catches anything with fins, but hey, think about it, which you prefer: no fish at all or a truckload of dinks ? Iīll take the truckload of dinks The bait has been so good lately that Iīm seriously thinking in having a mold made of a larger size ( maybe 3 or 4 inches ) and pour my own. This how Yamamotoīs look like |

Sometimes I throw plastics on my spinners instead of skirts. Is that weird?

I actually made my own surface lures when I was little, carved them out of broom sticks and hand painted them. I caught a few fish on them but then became a paper boy and had money to buy more expensive lures. Never did make my own lures after that.

I added a small colorado blade to a few jigs. Hoping the flash and movement may entice a bite or two. It swivels as it falls and hopefully when I swim it. Not a big jig fisherman so it has been a under used creation of mine. JB you should be ashamed, asking Zook to give up secrets on the stein. Man if lazer beams could travel over the internet, you might have a hole in your computer from Zook.

Rigged T-exposed "backwards" ( inserting the hook in the pointy end ) with a 1 EWG hook, the hook exits in between the head and the body. Most of the time I fish them weightless ( they have a lot of salt and are quite heavy even though they are small ), I just cast and let it drop on a slighly slack line ( so they can sink away ), itīs important to watch the line and determine if the bait is sinking at a normal rate because fish have the tendency of hitting the bait as it sinks.
If no hits as it sinks then once the bait settles on the bottom I reel in the slack and lift the rod tip, many times you find that the fish already has hit the bait. No takes ? no problem !, a jerk with the rod tip and let it sink again. Donīt ask me what these baits got but they are fish magnets, seldomly I have to "work" the bait, if I donīt get them on the initial cast I get them when I pick up the slack after the bait touches the bottom, they just grab the bait and run with it . For them I use a 6 ft ML spinning rod with 6 lbs test nylon or a M casting rod with 8 lbs test copoly ( depending upon cover density ). I find that you are more in contact with the bait when you fish with lighter line beacuse it doesnīt coil much like heavier lines. |
