Default Please recommend a graph.

Can you recommend me a high quality no frills graph? I want something with high definition that will mark structure such as stumps, rocks, brush piles and also mark game fish and bait fish and discriminate between the size of each. I'd really like something that gives "real time" feedback on plane but I've resigned myself to the fact that only a flasher can "really" do that, in spite of what the manufacturers say about graphs. I do not want a graph with any bells and whistles such as GPS etc. I just want one that marks fish, structure and tells me the temp and I want a good one. Not willing to sacrifice quality for price. Got one in mind??

I just installed an Eagle Fish Mark 480 on my boat this year and it works great for what you explain. Here's a few pics of how it will perform:

Garmin 240 will give you better picture in shallow water, less than 5', if that's important to you.

I'd try to find a wide angle finder.....I had a cone within a cone setup and felt it really did well. I know for a fact I found several structures I would have missed without the wide angle.

The Eagle recommended is a greta unit I have used ione many times. The only exception I would lconsider would be the same in color. They are easier to read. Fish2win

I would've gotten the color but I couldn't afford a $400 unit at the time. Does color just help show bottom composition, (i.e. - mud, clay, rock, weeds, stumps)?

color graphs show the diffence in density in objects. it will show different bottom compositions, and a guy in my club has a lowrance 510c and swears that once he finds a brush pile, he can see fish that are in the brush pile because they will be a different color (red i think). anyways that is how i understand color graphs.

The cost of color graph has come way down , They are easier to read at night or in the sun. They also differentiate between objects by color. They will be the norm in another couple of years so whatever you by now you will most likely replace in a couple of years if you buy blk/gray unit.It may be cheaper in the long runto just by color now. That's how I thought they worked, I just couldn't afford one at the time. I also was recommended to start with a grayline graph, too.

We've got a Hummingbird Matrix at the console and a cheap Eagle one on the bow: That'll be the first thing we replace when we can afford it.

We were looking at Cabela's last night and there's just so many to choose from. I do like the Dual Beam on the Hummingbirds (not all of them have it)

I'd tell you how our DF's work, but we haven't tried them on the water yet...
