Default Need help with finding&hooking up a fish finder

Im looking to purchase a fish/delph finder and mount it near the steering wheel. First off what kind do you guys recommend? I know nothing about any of them. Not looking for the best just something thats gonna help me out locating fish, and at a reasonable price. Secondly are they hard to hook up? How do I go about hiding the wires? ect...

WOW, that can have about a zillion answers. First off as for the fish finder, I use it more for finding structure and cover than fish. If you use it just to find fish your in for a long day of fishing for suspended fish. As to which model, look for the max pixels you can get, with as big a screen as you can get for around $150 to start off with. As to mount it, it will have mounting instructions in it. As for hiding the wires, just depends on what type of boat you have, and where you can or can't hide them. My alumunum boat, has little edges running along the side, I just put them in these edges, and used whatever I could find to keep them there LOL. If you have a typical bass boat, all of the wiring should run under the decks/seats/consoles. Don't know if this helped any, but I hope at least a little.

Lizards nailed it-the most pixels and big screen. Brand? I have Humminbirds on mine-bow and console-but Lowrance, Eagle, and Garmin are all good units. If you have a Bass Pro or Cabalas anywhere nearby they have different units set up runnung demos so you can look at a variety and see which ones you like.

Installation-not very difficult. If you get one with a temperature gague I'd highly recommend installing the transducer on the transom rather than going through the hull-mounting it inside the boat-to get an accurate water temp reading. Hiding the wires is no biggie-I just bundled them along with the other wires.

Like jensor said, I don't use them to find fish-I use them to find fish holding structure.

Jensor, welcome to the forum!
