Would/how would you fish it?

Frankly speaking, it's pretty but with the conditions you described I would break out the lipless cranks and head for flats near the spawning areas in 2-5' of water and cover me some ground looking for big Momma to be cruising and incubating!

Looks like a long rock pile in 11' of water.

Is there current? What's the water temp? Are there baitfish around the rock? Am I tournament fishing or just out for the day?

DD14 or something similar, C-rig, or JnP to start.

I'd work the ends first. What's on the right side of it? Any wood? Or a bank? What's causing the shadows below the pile? Pilings, grass, stumps or trees?

Depending on the conditions I would fish it with a deep diving crankbait, jig, carolina rig, and possibly a slow rolled spinnerbait.

When I posted this pic, I also included some tournament info that I later edited (i'm paranoind about who might see it ).

Anyway, conditions have changed. I found this submerged rock dike that paralells the bank right outside of a spawning cove. Water temp is hovering 56-60 degrees. Found some males up shallow 3-4 ft when I took this shot. This week we have had a cold front come in, with some 35 degree nights, and it looks like on tournament day saturday it will be raining hard, as a cold front will push thru and drop the daytime temp into the 50's.


So, when i posted this I described warming conditions and had planned to adbandon this and go shallow as suggested. This is the only rock structure around that spawning flat Now with the front coming thru, do you think it would be productive to fish?

Definitely....if the fish were shallow getting ready to spawn, the colder temps might have pushed them off of those flats. Maybe they won't go far, just to the first piece of structure, in which case they'll be on that dike.

I've been told that when weather conditions change fish pull back to the first drop (structure) and suspend or bury up in a some piece of cover (laydown, rock pile, grass, etc). If this holds true then you should have fish on the rock pile or suspended over the rock pile. Now the fun begins on figuring out what bait and at what depth will they eat.
Fluke, jerkbait, spinnerbait, or crankbait (running at the depth the fish are suspended at) for suspended fish. Deep diving, jig, plastics, etc if they're down in the rocks.

You're depth finder should help you figure this out pretty quickly on Sat.

LoL, on tournament day the wind was blowing 20+ it was 35 degrees, and raining sideways. I hid on the only bank I could find that was somewhat out of the wind. Ended up with 3 fish and finished 4th.

I couldn't have fished that dike with dynamite that day.

I do have it saved for a tourney there later this year tho
