Critters on the porch
Unfortunately Stumpy didn't hang around long enough to get photographed but these two skinks did. The one in the back is named Pepe Le Pew because he had only one thing on his mind ...... Stumpy is much darker than these two and has only a small portion what's left of a blue tail. First time I saw one of these around my house it was only 3-4" long. Now they're 7-8" long....cept for Stumpy. They must be eating well cuz I haven't seen a cricket in a while.

I once knew a freak-a-zoid type of couple that were pseudo vegetarians who only allowed themselves to eat skink tails. They justified this by explaining to me that they weren't killing any animals and since the skinks would grow a new harvestable tail pretty quickly, it was a renewable resource. They had many recipes for skink tail meat. They had bumper stickers and t-shirts made with sayings like Eat more Skink Tail etc etc

Ive got those on my front deck every now and then one gets in the door dogs get after it then it loses tail, dogs watch tail while it goes back out,to live another day.
Oddest one here is a brown anole lizard, they live in the trees and are actually a cuban species, one would think this is to far north but no have seen them in my yard on the side of a large pine tree. While unrelated we also have armadillos. |

I looked up a way to catch them last year using a soda bottle and a live cricket. Skink got in, ate the cricket, and got back out. I'm going to try using a 2L bottle this time.

My dad used to have problems with squirrels getting into his birdfeeders in the flower bed right outside a big kitchen window. His solution was to hook up an electric dog fence to the feeders, with a wireless on/off remote. It was a huge hit....we would all keep an eye on the feeders, waiting for our chance with the remote. Whenever one would start raiding the feeder, we'd all gather around to watch. We'd hit the remote to turn it on, and BAM! The squirrel would always jump straight up about 3 feet, and hit the ground running like his feet were on fire.
Sadistic? Yeah, maybe.....

Got baby Buggs hanging out in my garden and my yard......this pic was taken from about 2' away from the rabbit. Little guy took off across the yard when I stepped towards it.
