Spinnerbait blades
I know that Colorado blades help produce more vibes and lift, that willow blades produce more flash and a depper retrieve, that Indianas are a compromise between the two and that you can combine any of these to find the balance you're looking for...........WHEW, take a breath WSA!
What I have no clue about is what is the difference between the colors and finishes of blades? For example, when would you use silver blades and when would you use gold blades? When would you want a hammered finish as opposed to a smooth one? What the hell is the advantage of colored blades? You know, typical WSA stuff........the search for answers... |

get your pen out. you will use a willow blade if it is clear water gold blade in murky water. i almost use exclusively a double willow pattern at all times. if it is murky you should have a gold on the end and a silver front one if it is clear water and cloud cover you should use double silver. if it is clear water and no clouds and wind you should use silver blades and a skirt with a little more color in it. if it is clear water and no wind you should use a shakey head or some other finesse tactic. once you have that down you really need to focus on skrit colors and thickness in clear water trim the skirt smaller and take some strands out in murky water leave it a lone. use colored blades at night or in extremely muddy water. its all about light penetration. hammered blades make the flash look smaller if you want to slow the bait down and still make the blades look small use hammered blades. bigger blades in the spring and fall smaller blades in the summer. you almost always want to be reeling fast and jerking your rod so the fish dont get a good look at it. unless the water temp is cold then i will reel slower. any other questions please pm me.

I fish one lake that is Mud City. I like to use chartruese Colorado blades if I can find them; sometimes silver Willows or Indianas. Yet, I'm still in the same boat as WSA!

1. clear water, sunny, and no wind = silver skirt, silver willow leaf blades.
2. clear water, cloudy, and wind = white skirt, white or silver willow leaf blades. 3. muddy water = chartruese skirt, gold, orange, or chartruese colorado blades. wareagle has a line of spinnerbaits out now with painted blades, i really like these.

WSA, If you're fishing ultra clear lakes try silver willow blades. Regular finishes normally reflect light from one spot on the blade while hammered finishes relfect light from all over.
LL, If you're talking about Hudson, try copper blades, Thier hard to find on baits, but I've have multiple recommendations for them on Hudson for bass and musky. A good choice would be the Booyah Tux and Tails with the copller blades, I believe the bait is black. BB

i an building a hand full of hookerz "specials" i plan on using them in in may.. i have to tune them yet but thats easy nuff done..
dual colorado blades provide a lift rate that is about 1" pre foot of retrive at medium fast retrive speed.. this lift rate in combo with water displacement. makes these baits great at slow rolling they keep the bait off the bottom at a slow retrive..at higher speed these bait barrel roll like a fighter jet.. a mixed colorado /indy bade puts out a good viberation with a moderate lift rate.. as the indy blades turns about twice as much as a simpler sized colorado blade. this is a good choice for stained water..it will run tru at almost all speeds.. an all willow blade has little to no lift, they put out a lot of vibration.tend to get hung up less in weeds. because there is lil thump but alot high speed vibration.. it is a good choice for clear water..because the bait lacks lift it does not work well slow rolled.. i tend to dip my silver blades in a blade dye in gin clear water to knock down the flash amount. zooker

I have to admit i hate spinnerbaits. But saying all that i understand how valuable they can be. I always keep 2 in my box. Usually one with a willow leaf blade & one with a colorado blade.

Gold colorado in muddy water.
Chrome willow leaf in clear water or other than muddy water. White skirt or a combo of white for both. I.e. white w/silver strands, white with gold or silver flakes. I'm not particular it all depends on what I pickup first. Note: Four bladed spinnerbaits have saved the day when conditions warrant. I try to keep it simple.

think of it as spike it for blades.. just dip it in and use it -don't drip it on the carpet- there is NO neturalizer-yet- like there is for spike it..the colors i have seen are chartuse, red, and blue..love the blue... i used to go with black nickle blades -still do at times- but it will allow you to knock the shine down..

WSA, the quad blade spinnerbaits are a good one to have in clear water. I have both a BOOYAH super shad (4 willow blades) and the Mini Shad (3 willow blades) the super shad was what I caught my first spinerbait bass on. The multiple blades just add to the flash and vibration.

With all those expert commentaries, not much else to add for me, other than I use a Chart/Wht, dual willow leaf bladed (one silver, one chrome) Usually a Terminator 95% of the time I throw a blade. I add a 2-3inch Chart/Clear grub as a trailer. It seems to work in all weather form Sunny to rainy, and waters, from clear to muddy. My key to success with them is to throw them in the jungle, and bang them off of wood as much as possible, and don't ever worry about hangups, they will always make more.

If you guys like spinnerbaits, give these a try. IMO, the best spinnerbait out on the market. If you need to make subtle changes to your presentation all it takes is a quick snap of a new blade vice having to change to another spinnerbait.

user friendly way to change blade, but does the heavier guage wire take away any of the "feel".....
