Default Have you taken a kid fishing this year?

I just took my three year old nephew for his first time. He reeled in a tiny bass, cracking up the whole time. The one thing in the world I like better than catching fish is watching kids catch fish.

The first outing is important. I've known people to have bad experiences getting yelled at by dad for throwing rocks or yelling, and never want to go again. Let kids enjoy the whole outdoor experience. Be patient and don't expect to do any fishing yourself, if they're really young.

I agree with you and take my kids often. My 4 year old boy loves to fish!! Nothing better then to watch the excitement on their face when they catch one!!

Took two students out in a tournament this past weekend. We had a good time, caught fish, and placed.

There will be a Kids Fishing Derby at Lake Fairfax in Reston, VA on June 2nd. It begins at 9:00 AM. We've been doing this Derby twice a year for over 15 years and we normally get between 100 to 225 kids who come out and fish. Prizes go out to the top 8 or 10 in two age groups including a free trip on the Bay to the winners. All of the kids leave with a small bag of tackle and goodies. Come out if you are interested in helping or if you have a couple kids. Check out http://www.nhbayouthfoundation.org/ for more information.

Yeah I have taken my 5 year old nephew out twice this year and he loves fishing. I did get to do a little fishing myself, but the first time he still outfished me. Now every time I go for an hour here and there when I get off work, he gets mad at me for not going to pick him up . Now I need to get him to start touching the fish. He wont touch them.

My 9 year old boy is addicted and my 6 year old daughter enjoys fishing too, the 11 month old hasn't tried yet! When I take both older kids, there is no way I get to fish, but one at a time I get some fishing time. Honest to god, I'd rather pull my daughters hook out of my thumb, than pull in a lunker.
PS Bass Addict - that is one pretty pond behind your boy!

Thanks Brushhog! That pond is my dad's at his house. He lives practically across the road from me. I take my kids over there fishing all the time. It's a small pond but it has bluegills, crappie, bass, and I've put a few big ring perch in it too. It's perfect for small kids to catch a few fish. Actually I've put a few 5-8 lb bass in it too! One of the crappies I put in there weighed 2.1 lbs.
