Default Problem

I run into this problem all of the time. I got a slight backlash because my jig hit a branch and that caused a kink, which caused my line to break. Now I just barely have enough line on my reel to make a full cast.

I don't want to keep the line on the reel because I feel that I'm chancing a lost fish, but I don't want to waste all of that line either. What should I do with the line? Should I respool another bunch of line?

Thanks.

Joolz, assuming your spool isn't some super shallow deal, this is what backing is for.

Backing is basically your old line. Take roughly half of your line off the spool when you want to respool, then tie your new line ot this, and fill the spool the rest of the way. Some use less than half, some use more, but it really extends a spool of line.

And when you can feel/see the knot you know it is time to respool. After the initial spooling of a reel I never strip it all off unless I'm changing line types. Otherwise I pull off 3-4 long casts worth of line and then fill the spool back up.
