Trim Tab Anode

I just bought my first boat from my boss, It is a 1989 Randall Craft with Meriner 150 Magnum II, just took it to the shop to ensure that everything is fine and everything is checked out fine on it. The only problem is the trim tab anode is mising and im having a heck of a time finding one.

My question is will the motor be ok till I come across one.
Any help would be great, much needed!

You'll be fine. They are used to help the steering, boats steer right from the motor torque, the trim tab is adjusted to help fight that.

Your outboard has control anodes at different locations. An anode helps protect the outboard against galvanic corrosion by sacrificing its metal to be slowly eroded away, instead of the outboard metals.

Each anode requires periodic inspection especially in saltwater applications, which will accelerate the erosion. To maintain this corrosion protection, always replace the anode before it is completely eroded. Never paint or apply a protective coating on the anode, as this will reduce its effectiveness.

I personally know very little about the subject of replacement, but someone will. I wouldnt take it out in the salt, thats for sure. Freshwater might be ok.

If the tab is gone make darn sure the bolt is still in there. A little plastic cap keeps that hard to find bolt from getting lost.

Also when you do replace it use lock tite on the anode tab threads or after a wee bit of trailering it will be gone. My old Merc 200 lost about 6 in 10 years.. PIA.
