Tail up, vs tail down.

When you guys are jigging grubs, do you prefer to rig them tail down like shown in picture 1, or shown in picture 2. I've never really tossed grubs for bass down in Florida, but I did and salt water rigged them down down like in the first pic. Also, what kinda jig head do you to use, I can't seem to find a jig head that's go the right weight and the hook size.

I rig mine tail down, helps keep the tail from getting caught on the hook when jig fishing. I prefer Kalin's grubs to about any that I have fished, they are inexspensive and have great action.

If I'm dragging the grub on the bottom, I'll rig it tail up. In any other situation, tail down. Tail up will cause some fouling problems - the tail will get hooked.

I use both of them. I will rig it with the hook bend and tail in the same direction.

I also rig them tail down to avoid fouling in the hook, but I seriously doubt that it would make much of a difference as far as attracting strikes.

I like to fish Grubs with Tail down with a 1/8 ounce lead head
(Zoom Fat Albert single tail)
I also insert a Venom Glass rattle inside , then I take a Spike It Marking Pen and add a scent of garlic and add a red stripe at the tail and let the tail do all
the work

Always tail down!!! I read awhile back that rigging the tail up will cause the jig to spin and have found this to be true on smaller (crappie sized) jig and tail baits or in heavy current with some larger sized baits. I like to use Kalins 5" on off-set worm hooks weightless..... they do spin much more easily if rigged tail up. Always tail down on worms for me also.

G-Man - By your pic, you actually have it rigged tail up i believe. No offense meant at all, i just think BassBoss meant how the tail hangs when the jig would be in the water with the hook point being up. I have been wrong before though. - AF

Tail down on a soft bottom hoping to sweep up some sediment when hitting bottom or dragging when used for a trailer. Tail up when swimming presentations. Bubby rigging when I want the tail to wag the dog.

Thanks a lot guys, I hope their's not any confusion about tail up and tail down. I meant where the tail is in relation to when it's swimming. But I guess they why gman said it makes more scene.

I got some of those darter heads at wally world today, can't wait to see how they work out.

Now this is an interesting answer! I've never really considered that, but it makes some really good sense! I like using grubs on spinnerbait trailers and tend to put them with the curl down in cold water because it seems to kick a little more when retrieved really slow, and curl up when the water is warmer and the retrieve is faster. On jig heads I have always put the curl down (learned this while living in Tennessee), I just never really knew why.
