Default Spoon Fishing

Should I tie a swivel to that bar thing coming out of the top ? Has anyone fished these in heavy cover ?

I use a ball bearing swivel when I fish a jigging spoon. It helps with line twist. I have never used them in heavy cover just open water ledges, humps ect...

If you fish them in cover you might want to take the treble hook off and replace it with a single hook.

The Jawbreaker spoon is sold as a single-hook lure, so there's no need to replace any treble hook. We have had good luck with them, but we often add a worm or lizard trailer to them.

Speaking of trailers, It would seem to that it would be good to add a floating ribbit on it, would help keep it up and ad some jitter!

Yep, I think that would work well also. We usually fish them in lily pads.

Those things really work great on Lake Marion (Santee Cooper) skittering over and through the grass and lily pads. Caught a bunch of fish using spoons since the 60s.
I use 50# braid and tie directly to the spoon. Swivel is one less thing to go wrong in heavy cover. JMHO

What about line twist ? That just seems scary to me...SPRO makes some 50# swivels , I dont think you can ask for much more than that.

If you feel like you need one, tie it on.

If you put an 8 '' worm on a weedless Johnson spoon, it looks just like a watersnake coming through the water...work it thru the weeds or thru lilypads...it still scares me coming up to the boat...lol.
