Default Need some input

Headed to Texas to fish Rayburbn and hearing lots of bad stuff about the water being down and how dangerous it is to run your boat.

Saying lots of boats hitting stumps and beaching on snad bar islands.

I'm not ashamed to admitt this kinda water conditions scare the crap out of me...I work to hard to screw up my boat..

I'm all ears on advice on how to handle this type conditions

Thanks Will

If your unsure of the area go slow, keep an eye on your electronics for sudden changes in depths, and only RUN your boat in open boat lanes.

Never fished rayburn, but hope this helps

I'm gonna try to get in a day early to scope the water a little slower and try to make mental notes. Just gives me the creeps running in water when so much unknow out there

Later Will

i fish grand lake in oklahoma which can be a bear to navigate also, in fact it is kinda known around here for tearing up boats. my butt gets puckered when i am not sure of where i should run. just go slow and if there is any doubt then idle. sometimes you can tell where the channel is by looking for the steeper banks but not always so be careful and catch a lot of fish.

ill tell you more when i can get home and ask my dad..... he use to fish rayburn a lot..... my dad tells a story where it was a night tournament and the guy who he was with had a journal, a compass, and a stopwatch..... the guy would go SE for 20 seconds then turn NE for 10 seconds..... this is how he ran through the stump fields.... my dad said he thought he was going to die..... ill ask him about other pointers when i call him.... i forgot he went to vegas for a huge company meeting

Dead reckoning navigation in a bass boat going 60 or 70 mph? No thanks, I believe I'll swim...

aiken, i believe that. i know duck hunters that run the same waters in the dark so much that they have names for the trees where they change course. and be running down a slough wide open, with a 25 to 40 horse tiller, and all of a sudden let off just before the motor hits a log under the water and kicks up. then back on the gas!

No particular states, just the south in general.
Now before anyone thinks I am a native of the west coast.
I was born in Charleston SC and raised in New Market VA. I figure I have earned the right to make fun of my heritage.

Tennessee, if you can, get a map of the lake that shows where the channels and creekbeds are located, you should be safe cruising there.

yeah the best bet is to go find some old guy local at the baitshop and ask him what he thinks.... you might have to listen for half a day but it will be worth it.... old people got great fish stories

Tenn. Just idle until you get comfortable with the lake. It"s probably the safest way not to tear up your boat. Good luck.
