Default Trailer Insurance Question

Hey guys,
Quick question regarding the insuring of a small boat trailer. I recently added coverage of the trailer to my car insurance for no charge because it is a 12' boat trailer and is very small. I own the boat/trailer with another person with a seperate car and the boat will be trailered frequently by both of us. I know that the trailer will be covered by my insurance when I trailer it, but if the other person was towing the trailer would it still be covered? Is there a way to "split" the insurance so both cars are covered?

Thanks for any replies. I figured I would ask here before I call my insurance company just so I know whats going on.

Insurance exclusive to a trailer? Is the boat insured or just the trailer?

check with your agent i'm pretty shure when the trailor is under tow it falls under the vehicles inc. that is towing it automaticly there for, no charge. thats mass stat laws . but laws vary from state to state. so be safe and be shure.

Older home owners policy covered not only the trailer but the boat as well regardless of where it was parked or in motion,my 15 skeeter my first bass boat was fully covered by it.
Nowdays they want extra.

This thread raises a lot of interesting questions. I also need to call my agent to make sure I have enough coverage, what with all of the money I have put into my rig and tackle over the last year.

Oddly enough, I was just asking an ex girlfriend/former insurance agent about boat insurance the other day. She said the best and cheapest way to go is on your home owner's policy

the trailer is covered buy your truck insurance while it is being towed. and you have full coverage on the towing vechial.
most house owners insurance has horse power restrictions-check how much.

btw did you know you can NOT get flood insurance on a boat...

Always good to know what's covered and what's not. A simple phone call would have been easier though

I called my insurance agent, and by Golly....there were some instances I was not covered for. My camera is covered under my homeowner's policies, but that only protects it from theft, fire, etc....not a clumsy moron (wonder who?) dropping it into 50 ft of water. Same thing with my fishing tackle, where I would be hard-pressed to use my $50 St. Croix replacement guarantee if it's at the bottom of the lake. I think I am getting hosed on my Humminbird though, as they consider it "portable electronics," as opposed to "sporting equipment." All in all, I found out, i can cover all of this stuff, with no deductible, and all instances, for $11 a month more than what I was paying. Not too bad. I just need to figure out how coverage of the tackle is handled...I mean...I don't want my boat to sink, and then they say...."how do we know your tackle box had $1500 worth of stuff in it?".

Nofear, I've heard that World Wide Marine will insure tackle and everything in the boat. I've only heard good things about them.
