mariner trolling motor question 1984?

I have a mariner 628r trolling motor. it is loud, I took it apart and cleaned it, but also pulled the little plug and drained the oil or whatever that is in there out? Does anyone know what kind of oil is in those? I think it is a 1984 or 85. Thanks to anyone who can help.
