Default Fuel guage problem

Any ideas before I tear into it, and remember I am a Va. redneck so when I tear into something RUT ROW is not the right words.

It was working at the end of last year but not now.

Ron, the float may be "waterlogged" mine were in the cajun. Take it to a dealer if oyu aren't good at sealing the thang back in.

I had just bought my boat and the fuel gauge was not working.
I did not know if it was the guage or the sending unit.
I took the 2 wires off and touched them together for a second as i was looking at the guage and the guage moved so i know it was not the guage.
I took the sending unit out but before i did i marked the direction with just a black line and took out the sending unit. The float on it was rising to the top, there was a little ring that holds it down and it was all the way at the top so i just moved it down on top of the float and everything works great now. If that is not it then it could be hitting the side of the tank or the unit is bad and they are not but about 30 to 50 bucks i think.
