Our boat's been covered up all year. It rained 3 out 4 days this spring, then when it stopped raining it got 100 degrees... Come fall, we've been really busy...

So the end of my season will be marked by ice on the water or when I start to take my reels apart for winter maintenance.

Does the snow fall off that tarp pretty easily? I just made a 1 1/2" PVC center frame for a cover for mine yesterday and it is pretty tall like yours. I just have to make the ends and buy the tarp now. This will be the first year for my boat to be kept outside.

if as step abbydad brids will side of it . yet alone snow. just check tie downs once in a while as they tend to loosing up

Remains to be seen. Two years ago I had her shrink wrapped (picture). It cost about $120. I carefully unwrapped her and reused the shrink wrap again last winter. The wrap was not quite as tight, but worked fine. This year, there were a couple of torn places (notice where they had taped) I could not re-seal well, so I covered it all with a $40 tarp.
There are two, six foot 2x4 'masts' off the deck, bow and stern. Rope secures these masts side to side and front to rear, just as they did for the original shrink wrap.
The height gives a steep pitch and most snow falls off. I will also treat the tarp with 303 Aerospace Protectant which will prolong life and make it slicker for snow to slide off.

So there she sits until spring <sniffle>

Just for 'the record' tarping her up alone in a breeze promotes several colorful adjectives!!!

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to get my wife to come out and help. Also that is a great idea about the 303, that stuff is super slippery and should help the snow fall off. Here is the frame that I have made so far. I'm going to come off each end with an extension and run supports down to the ground. I hope it is strong enough.



The boat won't fit through the door on the garage and we just moved here so I haven't had time to "fix" it. Hopefully by next year I'll get a new garage built although there isn't much space to expand.

Hey Bender,

Your pvc 'mast' should be plenty strong enough, but some diagonal lines might better support the tarp. Here's a better shot of how my boat was 'strung' for the shrink wrap. They used nylon strapping material (like for boxes). I have her strung similarily, only I used 3/8" braided rope.
But the rope isn't as strong as your pvc will be.
That's the thing too - stringing her up alone is a trick too since the ropes alone hold the 2x4's upright. I may go a pvc route too, but this has worked for two winters (3rd coming) so I'll ponder it. :-)
