Is the guy in the boat at the top of the page fishing towards us or away from us? Look closely.

Facing us.

But with no breaks in the black it could be either/both I guess.

Wow, I can totally talk myself into both ways. I think he's going away from us but it's nearly impossible to tell.

Technically, it is impossible to tell. That's how a silhouette works (ask the guys at the Skunkworks who designed the Stealth Fighter).

HOWEVER (and you knew there would be one), given the line of weeds behind him (which are definitely behind the boat), I am inclined to visualize him as facing away from us, and casting at the weeds.

DOUBLE HOWEVER!!! I just noticed his seat backs and console. Unless he has the only boat in creation with only a passenger side console, he's facing towards us.

Awesome.

The boat position can pull him either way.....The sun positioning (creating the silhouette) suggest late evening/early morning fishing which can be a prime shallow feeding time..The greenery of the grass tends to fall in the shade of early spring since no dying or brown grass is present., so I can only hypothesis that this is pre-spawn conditions.

If he's smart.....He's fishing away from us

Looking at the picture, I have to say, I'd bet a bag of Strike King Rage Lobsters he's facing away from us. Looking at the outboard and the troller, it appears the outboard is closer. PLUS, he is on the right side of the grass field he is pitchin to. Yes, pitchin. Don't ask me how I know that, I won't divulge how I gained that knowledge. The front of his boat is facing to the left, which means he is working the grass line while moving to the left. Plus the photo enlargment from Ken showing the enlargement with the spectromalontrophic filter is suspicious at best. I'm calling in an electromatalic culminator expert to check it out.

We clearly see his back, its not even close.

Look at the rod. It is one of the few features of the sillohuete that has a shade other than black. It is grey/black/grey. This amount of detail is blocked by the persons body. Therefore, the person is in front of the reel and lower part of the rod, therefore, we are looking at his back.
