That'd be a nice reel to have. I mean GREAT reel to have. A SOL or Curado 50 will happen for me, SOME day...

And when it does I'll have a pack of 10lb fluorocarbon waiting on them.

There are quite a few things different with the Curado 50 than the Curado 200s.

First off, like you noticed is the gear ratio is a 6:1. I would have preferred they left it at a 7:1 though.

The next thing is line capacity. similar to spinning reels, Shimano rates their line capacities on their baitcasters. So the 200 sized reel would have a much larger capacity than the 50 sized. This allows for a lighter spool, and lighter spools lead to better casting performance, especially with lighter lures. This reel was designed to be throw lighter lures.

Another change is the whole frame and body itself. Thankfully, it's not built on the Citica/Curado 200 frame. It's build on the same frame as the Core 50 or the JDM Aldebaran and Scorpion XT1000. The only difference in the frame between the Curado 50 and Core 50 is the Curado is Aluminum while the core is magnesium.

Finally, it is $20 more expensive than the Curado 200, unless they raised the price on those too.

Great comparison, one thing I read recently that I would add to this is that although the Curado 50 is a smaller reel, they are claiming it has the same line capacity as the 200 series. The information that I read also stated that the spool in the Curado 50, was of a larger size and different dimensions than the Core and Scorpion, and that if they had to put a size to it, they would call it a 150. While this spool will still be lighter than the 200, it will be interesting to see how this effects the finesse aspects of the reel.

I would have loved to see this reel in a different color at least. I wish it didn't look exactly like a 200. I am really interested in how this reel performs though, It wouldn't surprise me if one showed up on my door step at some point.

I agree joe! I think they should have made it another reel. Different name, and different color! The different frame alone makes it justifiable for new name.

Interesting... and kind of disappointing... Do you have a link to where you read that Tav? I'd like to read it as well.

My thoughts exactly Joe. Personally, I think it should have been a Chronarch 50. The Chronarch D7 and the Core 100 are the same reel (except aluminum vs magnesium), so wouldn't it make sense to make the Core 50's aluminum counterpart a Chronarch 50?

I apologize this was a mistake on my part, it is in fact the Caenan that has the different size spool, sorry for any confusion my previous post caused. The good news is, it makes the Curado 50 a much nicer reel.

That's ok Tav. Good to know though. I guess I haven't done any reading about the Caenan, so I didn't catch that.

Tav knows and loves everything about the Caenan, he already has 5 on pre-order!

Only color a Curado should come in GREEN! I have sevral older models and in comparison to the new ones they feel much more durable. Fished a chronarh mg and a core, might be worth saving your pennies and going for the big dogs. I just dont think they take much pride in the curado line anymore
