Default Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report From Guide Jim Rea

Well, this past week has been a good one. The Mc Donald Tournament was a great success. There were 1252 fish weighed including 5 over ten pounds. This was a showing that Lake Fork Is alive and doing well.
One thing you need to remember is our slot wont allow fish 16 to 24 to be brought in for weighing. Because our fish are known for being short and fat there are many that may weigh over ten but to short to bring in.
No matter the lake is proving that she is ALIVE and doing well.
The fishing has been good with good numbers of small fish to keep you excited and a good fish mixed in for good measures. Tail spinners fished like spinner bait has been good. The shad are about one inch to one and a half long makes this bait work. Small crank baits in a shad pattern, lipless crank baits, Texas & Carolina rigs, weightless Wave Tiki Sticks, Lake Fork Tackle ZigZag baits, and buzz baits fished over and around the grass has been good producers. Top water in the early mornings have been good. Pop’R type baits are the best choice.
The water temp is 80 to 84 degrees. The backs of creeks are a little off color but the main lake is clear. There fish are still schooling so keep a lipless crank bait or tail spinner handy to cast to the fish. Cast past the school and bring the bait back through and stall your retrieve where the fish were. The yellow bass are starting to show up on the humps. Jigging spoons and tail spinners dropped to the bottom and hopped up and down will catch these fish.
The crappie are showing signs of getting a little bigger in the favorite spots. I fished Wednesday for a half a day and we and plenty little ones but did catch a mess of keeper size fish. We use small jigs. Minnows would have worked if you prefer them.
Now is the time to get a fall Bass or Crappie trip together. Give me a call so we can set this up. This is a good Christmas gift. Give that special someone a Guided fishing trip.
