Look under dash and see if you have the same wire at the tach. A loose or broken wire is goona mean no tach at all...........it either is gona work or not. Does the tach run up to 1900 and then fall off or hold at that rpms?????

is there a simular box and wire on the other side of the motor? V-6s have a box on top of each head by fly wheel if one box is going out you can plug it in to the other side.

nope, the wires are just held there to keep them from getting caught in the fly wheel

Turns out the red wire is the wire that is possed to go from the rectifire to the battery, and is for the charging sys. The tach runs off the alternator and it is very rare that the charging systen goes out on these motors. The mechanic i talked to on the phone this morning said he knew for a fact that the alt was good because i was getting a signal to the tach. i was told that the red wire deffanatly needs to be hooked up, and more than likely i have a bad tach. bummer for me, what does a mariner tach cost?
