as the day moves on what do they do
i know i have been blowing up the board with odd, questions but i love forums casue i am talkng to real people and getting the normal mans answer. anyway not going to get to go early as i thought but around 11 or 12 in the morning. i know in summer in morning top water or buzz, moving on to pastics and cranks. but in winter what do bass do? do the move or stay in one place waiting for the meal( i know the are slow in winter) i wanted to pitch cover, use cranks and jerk baits. will this work all day?
going to a new place with deep water and lots of timber and brush down it is all walking distance around 4 coves above my damn, |

Honestly in the winter months I like fishing later in the day better than in the mornings. As the sun beats on the water all day the fish tend to become more active which is totally opposite than the rest of the year. I look for boat ramps or other areas of hard bottom composition like rip rap or chunk rock because the sun will warm the rocks or concrete in these areas and as a result the water will warm up a little bit, making fish more active. I like jigs and jerkbaits in these areas. Cover some water and if you get a bite or two work the area really well because in most cases fish will be schooled up this time of year.

Hmmm honestly can say for the winter months enjoy reading or watching others fishing later in the day while I sit by the warmth of my fireplace with a fresh cup o java.

It's an ice dome here too but as soon as the ice clears, I'm looking at transition areas from deep to shallow, and probing those areas with a jerkbait for the most part as well as a lipless crankbait. Plus I'll be pitching to woody cover with a jig. Shallow flats near deep water dropffs can pay off well in the afternoon after the sun has warmed them up a bit.

If its around greenery they do,and will hit top.
Useless anywhere else but around greenery early cool water. Look around if frogs are out they will bite, shallow westerly bays, where its a tad warmer than say main lake. |

Taken first of march year ago 55 f water, caught on a 1 0z king spro.
Thats a 17 in fish.Note no grass on bank as yet,but lilly pads were up. learned that from Zell Have caught fish in 50-51 deg water on buzzbaits, just have to toss next to warm rocks and slow down Last edited by lilmule; 01-28-12 at 03:38 PM. |

I'd slow my retrieve down a little but depending on the water them, high 40's to low 50's, bass are still aggressive and if they want to eat they'll get your bait. Once again watched them eat a bunch of baits in the tank and the guys doing their presentation tried not to hook them but still couldn't prevent the bass from eating the baits. |
