Default Shimano Scorpion?

I have question for y'all, what's the difference between the Scorpion 1501 and the Curado 301, other than one is JDM and the other is USM, and color? I can't seem to find a difference in the stats anywhere. Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, the 1500/01 was a 200 series reel and was the JDM equivalent of the Curado 200E. It has a few minor differences, it has a ported dragstar, and it uses the smaller septon grips like on the Citica. It also does not have the anti-reverse pawl that is used in the Curado E, so it weights just a little less than its U.S. brother. It also come in a few different gear ratio's I believe in both RH and LH versions.

That's what I can remember.

Tav is correct, the 1500 is the 200e equivalent. I think the Speed Master is the 300 counterpart.

A 200 size reel that holds 115m of 20lb.mono? I mean, it does look smaller, and "cheaper" looking. Not doubting, just looking for a cheaper alt to the Curado 301e.

The cheaper alternative to the Curado is called the Citica.

I don't know that you're going to find a Scorpion cheaper than a Curado, if you do, there's probably a reason. Check Ebay, you can find good deals on 300's.

Have several round reels, run the gambit, from Abu bcx all the way up to calcutta te 400, I really don't like them, there is just something about a low profile reel that makes me comfortable, therefore more confident fishing them. Worse comes to worse, I will pick up another Cardiff 301. Thanks again.

I did a quick look on Ebay, looks like the 300E is running at about 200 and the Revo Toro Winch is about the same. Not a bad price.

You might be able to find an older Curado 300 DSV a little cheaper or even a Bantam 300.

It's not easy but it can be done. Buddy picked up a Scorpion in Japan for me a few years back for $65.

Problem with the Scorpion is they do have parts that you can't find in the US to replace them...and they don't match Curado's or other Shimano reels. And to find them you or your repair person has to be well connected with Shimano Japan.

$99 on eBay, but the rest of this is good to know, especially when buying used.

Which model are you looking at? for $99, it's probably an older one.

1501 deep spool which would let me put 150 yards of 20 lb. on it.
