Of course I know you're just joking...Hank lives down here not far from me and is an all around nice guy-family man-good ole boy etc. But it wasn't always that way, before he got his big break (married into a deep-pocket family) he was sort of a lay-about, ran a little low key boat repair/guide business on Wylie.

Not at all! I can't wait to be retired and living up there full-time from March through December and off somewhere warm every Jan & Feb. I'll be eligible to retire with full benefits at age 55, which is now only 7+ years away - wahoo!

Hee Hee. Not quite. Will be just a little north of central MN. We are way down in southern MN now, only about 30 minutes from the MN-IA border.
This is the lake we spend all our vacation time on from mid-April through mid-October every year now and where we'll retire to. |

I went to a small local pond for a couple hours today. Caught my first of the new year. Around three pounds or so with a Red Eye Shad (bluegill) third cast of the afternoon and another dink s-l-o-w rolling a buzzbait (Booyah clacker chartreuse/white) just under the surface. Not a bad couple hours; nice day around 64 degrees and slight breeze.

Are buzz baits affective in colder water? 60's is warm but how about 50's and 40's?

ETX could you please expound on your method of slow rolling a buzzbait just under the surface. I have never heard of retrieving one that way.

I don't know if your familiar with them, but you can buy a straight inline bucktail buzzer. It's been made by several folks over the years. I think Uncle Buck made it for a while. BPS has their version called the Tourney Special. Anyways, in early spring right after ice out when the water temps are below 50 degrees, I have slow rolled them with pretty good success. I add a 4-5 inch twist grub for a little more attraction. I cast it out as far as I can and let it sink to the bottom. Then I begin a slow retrieve just enough to keep it swimming off the bottom. The advantage to this lure is that you can retrieve it along the bottom slower than any spinnerbait because of the blade design.
