Default Off set hooks

Any of you guys out there that like to keep the fish you catch, I totally recommend off set hooks. I recently was in a situation where I had to keep the fish I was catching. and normal hooks weren't doing the job to well. So as any fisherman would do I dug into my book of dirty tricks and got out my off set hooks. I'll tell you right now it made a world of difference, not only did I get more hook sets "but" I also got deeper hooks sets as well!

Fish can run and hide but now they can't get away!

they are also called circle hooks as well. It's just that the tip off the hook is off set from the shank of the hook.the alignment is off.

ILFishinman, I thought your picture was an offset hook as well. And the Robzilla hook was a circle hook.

octopus and circle hooks there called here zilla.. i use them but here is the problem with them ya can't do a hook set with them. ya do and the hook comes out of there mouth. i use these on jug lines and for striper mostly 8-12/0. what happens is the hook slids up the fishes mouth as the eye exits the jaw the point digs in. fish is hook by line tension alone..
the off set style is prefured for flounder and shark. nothing says howdy to a fish like an circle hook. for shark a steel not stainless 20/0 hook is prefured..

i use those circle type hooks for the wacky rig. They are actually "wacky" rig hooks made by Diiachi. Seem to work well but they do get hung up.

circle hooks are made both ways, in-line points and offset points with the point approximately 3 to 5 degrees to the side.... When "setting" a gentle sweep is required, or in place of the sweep, just start reeling at a moderate pace. In Fisherman had an article not long ago, comparing the more open octopus hook to the true circle hook shown in Robzilla's post. The true circle did less damage to the fish, but the octopus hook was higher on the hook up rating by far.
