Default Chatterbaits

I fish quite a bit and fish a good bitof tournaments but i have never ever thrown a chatterbait. This is kind of suprising since i throw spinnerbaits and jigs so the chatterbait is just between.

So my question is how effective are they and what is you favorite way to use them. Also what is you favorite kind and favorite trailer. Go as deep as you want to into the subject. reallu would like to improve my knowledge on this subject. Also what time do you fish them, what temp, what clarity, prespawn, postpawn, and any other techniques with it.

Thanks,

a lot of guys will tell you to throw them around weeds, while i am sure this works we don't have much in the way of weeds around here so i don't do much of that. my favorite way to fish a chatterbait is throwing it around docks. i let sink until it is just below the floatation on the dock and bring it alond docks at that depth, this works best for me on sunny days when the fish are using the shade from the dock. i have also seen guys work them in rocky areas like a jig but i just go with a football jig in that situation most of the time. i have also pitched them in shallow brush and flooded trees from time to time.

Here is a Chatterbait "secret" here in Texas: Pull the skirt off and thread on a Lake Fork Magic Shad. That has accounted for some big sacks on Choke Canyon, Falcon and Amistad.

One thing you will need to do if you get a Chatterbait: Sharpen the hook. For some reason they are about as sharp as a Q-tip right out of the package.

I agree with c-rig, we use them around docks and along sea walls and we have taken the skirt off and added some kind soft jerk bait, works real well.

I agree, a spinner bait set up with a 6.4:1should be fine! Hoe ever I'm much more comfortable with a 7' than a 6' 6". That's just me though.
