I think you've hit the nail on the head Kevin. Those of us that know a little (or a lot) about reels in general, will know the difference. The general reel buying public will not. While it will keep enthusiasts from buying the reels, it will probably end up generating more sales for Shimano.

I actually think it was a good move on Shimano's part, at least from a marketing perspective. They use their brand names like Chronarch and Curado, and put them at a price level that the average angler can comfortably purchase. Like previously stated those that know are a minority those that are unsure will represent the greater majority of fisherman. I think all the new reels will be fine, but it will never be same buying a Chronarch now.

Good read fellas. I am not a fan boy because that sounds gay, but I like using Shimano reels. Hahahaha

Yeah, when you think about it like that, you are right. It's a dumb move if the enthusiasts are your main market but that isn't the case. This will appeal to the masses.

I agree 100% It's all about the bottom line. The enthusiast market in the big scheme of things is small. It was only natural for them to do this. However, I probably won't be biting personally.

I don't think that the new marketing strategy pleases me. I think that it will push somebody like me toward the Core if I was considering a Chronarch before. Personally I'd like to see them release a "throw back" model and make B series Curado's again. But take that with a grain of salt since I am a Shimano guy, I have quite a number of them.

I do understand that they are trying to move more product while reducing costs.

Yeah, Shimano are stupid. However, I do think that the plastic drag star thing gets too much hate. I know how much some of you guys adore the original Curado's, and yes they had a plastic drag star. I could see me owning a Chronarch (*cough* Curado *cough*) G but other than that, nothing seems to fit my liking. Wait, no more titanium levelwind on the Curado's? bye bye braid use..

Charlie, the Citica E does not have a Ti line guide, and I have never had any problems with using braid on it. I asked once on the Shimano forum and I believe they told me tha the inserts were SiC, which we know is fine for use with braid. Not sure what the new line guides will have for inserts.

As long as the line guide is some type of ceramic, it should be fine for braid.

While it does not please allot of us, it makes me wonder about what will Shimano do to fill the gap between the new Chronarch at 199 and the Core 50 and 100 and around 349. There is quite a gap there, one would hope that this may let the prices on the Core and Calais lines to drop a little. Probably wishful thinking, but one can always hope.

Definitely wishful thinking, considering they had to raise prices (so to speak) on the other lower end stuff, lol. But yes we can wish!

I can see them coming out with something to combat the T3 Ballistics, and revo premier in the very near future though.
