Welcone to the forum!

What kind of applications are you going to be doing with each one? Knowing that will help give you a good recommendation.

Welcome, glad to have ya here. You'll get a thousand different answers to that question. First thing I'll ask is are you on a tight budget, or do you want some really great line. Depending on your answer, plus the answer to Rebasser's question, will get you more specific answers.

Asking what kind of line should I use is like asking, how big a fish should I catch. We just need a little more info. I use 15# Stren High Impact on my crankbait rod, spinnerbait rod. I use 12# Florocarbon on my dropshot rod. For flippin and pitchin I use 50# braid. My carolina rod I use 50# braid with a 12# Florocarbon leader. I tie the braid to the florocarbon with a uni knot.

I wanna say mono, but I'm not an expert on the ambassador's. I would also like to say hello and wish you luck in all your fishing adventures. I haven't been bass fishing that long, only about 13 yrs and I'm a slow learner, but I do like the tips and advice that alot of the regulars here offer to the new guys like us. I find that as far as fishing line goes, the two biggies are mono of course and braided. I believe that mono is the all around standard with braided having big benefits for certain techniques, like flippin in heavy cover and so forth. I think it's up to you to try them both and find out which one you perfer, after all in the end, its all about confidence in one's equipment and abilities. I have a few favorites when it comes to mono and Pline or Silver Thread are two I would recommend. I can't say about the braided lines, for I am not a big fan of them, but I do know that the guys here on this forum like Power Pro.
Good Luck and Great Fishin Days to you.

For me the best line to learn a baitcaster with is Braid. Less memory than mono or Flouro. I would personally reccomend Powerpro, but the decision is yours. Are you like just starting to learn, or have some time under your belt with one? If you are brand new, then theres a link to Baitcasting 101(hey Reb how about a little help) I used to have it on my computer, but lost it when it crashed. It's the best article I ever read for someone new to baitcasting, and if you do "EXACTLY" what it tells you to do, then you will spend more time fishing, and less time picking out backlashes, and cussing. Or for that matter, just not using it at all.

On baitcasters the dreaded backlash can be terribly frustrating. The dreaded backlash has even affected Congress. Consider this headline from the drudgereport.com today. "Backlash Stalls Internet 'Civility' Bill... "

Depends on the lure, but I usually keep it set on the tight side.

Don't be in a big hurry to take off the brakes or the spool tension. You will get better just using it, then you can slowly back off of the others stuff, and start getting more distance. NOT BACKLASHING is the most important thing when first learning. It keeps you from spending money on line that it would take a wizard to untangle, and it keeps you using it. I would use spinnerbaits, and medium cranks at first to get used to it.

Welcome aboard Redneck

Lizzy

Used the Power Pro and I gotta tell ya man Its as good as it gets.
