Default How do YOU organize your crankbaits...???

Ok guys... I'd like to know how most of you keep your crankbaits organized and stored. Do you organize them by size or by how deep they run? What is easiest for you to get what your looking for...?

Thanks...........Brian

Diving Depth.

I've got two boxes of shallow cranks: < 5' One is nearly full of Bandit cranks, the other had an assortment of other shallow divers.

One box of medium cranks: 6-10'

And one of deep cranks: >10'

Then within each box, I usually keep like brands/models together. For example, I'll put my Bandit Footloose cranks together and then my Bandit 100 Series cranks together near them.

I keep them apart by depth in compartments, but that is about it. When I grab one, the whole ball comes out. You never know, I might change my mind and want something else. And it is already conveniently in the ball.

Short of getting 100 boxes with dividers that have one crankbait apiece in each slot there isn't a perfect way of doing it...

As for me I subscribe to the above posts, boxs for shallow, mid range, and deep. In each of these boxes it's a tangled mess of hooks. The hook covers help somewhat but I don't use them.

a box for each depth then similar colors grouped together. It's amazing how a couple of jiggles and shakes can free a crank from the ball.

Box and ball method with being able to reach down and pull one out of my titanium knee every so often, yeah kneeled on a ball one day didnt know it till I stood up and no didnt hurt as didnt penetrate other than a bit of skin.Yes was quite relieved when I could easily pop them off,but not about to store there intentionally.

I build a day box and upload my favorites plus whatever matches the forage. I still have boxes of lipless, shallow, meds, and deeps. But my go to-daybox has my favorite spook, red eye shad, normie, and some pointers. I run a 3600 tray or 3700 depending on the lake. I have a hardbait box and one for plastics.

+1 on the day box deal but I use a block of closed cell foam zip tied within easy reach. I imagine we all keep our cranks(or whatever) organized in a way we each like but I hate having to dig and hunt for a particular bait of any kind in the heat of battle. I'm sure most of us know before we leave home where we are going and have a game plan.

I used 3600 boxes and have one each for shallow, medium, and deep diving. I've got to expand that now though since I keep buying crankbaits!

I have eight plastic boxes in my bag. 5 hold crank baits. Sort into boxes by depth and then color & style.

I throw them in a tupperware box - cranks according to depth, another for traps, another for jerkbbaits, topwaters have their own. I give each box a real good shake at the end of the day, just so they are good and tangled for the next outing.

Quagga mussels are killing my crankbait jones. I have a deep diver box(3700). 2 medium boxes, a shallow box, just starting to build a square bill box, and 5 lipless boxes(2 are 1/4's and the 3 are 1/2's or bigger). Looks like I may throw jerkbaits a little more.

I use waterproof 3740 boxes (because changing out a few hundred rusted crankbait hooks sucks). I have a shallow, deep, and rattletrap box. In the boxes they are seperated by shad colors, crawfish colors, and other colors. I use the lift and shake method for getting my bait out also.

At the beginning of the year I have them all sorted properly: 3 3700 boxes of traps, several deep boxes, a few middle boxes, several shallow boxes, then special boxes such as Speed Traps, Big Os, etc.

My problem is that I buy more during the year and end up adding a box or two that are all mixed up since at the beginning of the year I fill the different boxes. Not sure about a strategy for that "problem".

I keep a single box that has my better baits in it that I'll switch out depending on the water I'm fishing. I keep a range of all depths in this one.

The rest I keep organized by type and depth. Typically I'll have two or three in a slot so I don't have a big mess to deal with when I pull one out. If I'm in the back of a boat I'll bring just the one box and maybe one or two others. In my boat I pack them all....just in case.

Back in the day Ol Zooker would have posted his crankbait porn on this thread by now....

I have the same problem. I've started just keeping extra boxes and filling them as I go. It means I may have 3 or 4 boxes with only a couple of baits in them but it gives me motivation to buy more baits to fill them up.

I don't have large amounts of cranks, but I tend to group them by what they are....top water, jerk baits, shallow runners or deep divers, and lipless rattle trap style cranks pretty much covers all my stuff.
