What? Did you only have 1 lure? Solution: Use better line, and bring more lures. Problem solved.

Hmmmmm been there done that. Had a abu that used to engage for no appearant reason during a cast before I retired it I sent a Bandit crankait into orbit. Right now I beleive it should be on the backside of the moon. Sucks when that happens.

I often fish small ponds near my house with only one or two lures. Easier to move without a tacklebox, trains you to use a lure well, and bass very rarely break you off in a basically structureless pond.

I had an incident like that once. The line was wrapped around the end of my two-piece (will never buy again) rod and when I cast (lure) it broke the line and the rod tip went with flying with it. I stood there for about 2 minutes thinking of a curse word that has never been said before so I could yell it from the top of my lungs.

If you reel your bait all the way to the tip of the rod often times it will break on the cast. Allow at least 6" or more of line to hang off the tip.
