Default Modifying Rod Handle

I want to modify one of my rod handles , I want a large section of the rod exposed where the lower cork handle is at. I wonder if I can cut a section out of it , and sand it smooth to make it look good , then reinstall it ?? Come on Rod Builders , help me out here...I think Diawa has a rod like this I seen somewhere.

It's cork. Fine grit sandpaper can smooth out cork just fine. I use it on mine when they start getting dirty and grungy.

Its needs to be taken apart, and a exposed wrap needs to be installed. My Castaway Bud Pruitt flipping sticks are made that way. Go to Janns netcraft, they sell the stuff you need. I would recommend buying the stuff to build you a whole new rod and not mess with what you already have. P N J

I believe Janns sells a kit with a instruction book as well.I haven't built a rod yet, but there are many people here who have.I am sure they can answer any questions you have.I am really considering the same thing.I just don't want to put alot of money in it and figure out thats not what I want to do. Tried modding an old rod once only to destroy the handle. Highly reccomend making your own. The kit at netcraft is not that pricey, bout what youd spend on a good airrus or allstar.

Cabela's has a kit with several different colors of thread, color sealer, epoxy and brushes for 35 bucks I think. It's a pretty good deal. It also comes with a little how to manual. If you do a search for Rod Building or Rod Making there are some good web sites out there that will show you how to make one.
