JRL, it varies greatly, but I do find that a lot of fish like it being moved fast.

That is just how some of the little peacock are colored. Speckled Peacock have a certain type of black mark on their head. I saw a monster peacock yesterday. Hopefully I can put my dad on that same fish today.

I use a couple different fly rods in freshwater. I have two 4 weight fly rods (one is being repaired). One is 6' 6" and the rod I caught that fish on is
7' 6". The rest of the fly rods I use, salt and fresh, are 9' long. I like the feel of a shorter rod with the lighter line weight. |

3 pound 12 ounce peacock on 4 weight fly rod
2 peacock on fly today
The biggest of the day at 3 pounds 12 ounces This is the biggest bluegill I have ever caught. It ate a crankbait! It fought pretty well for its size. I thought it was a little peacock or a mayan. |

Jeeze Islandflyfisher, that bluegill is a beast!!!! Wondering if that's a coppernose bluegill b/c I was looking at the bluegill from my Ichthyology textbook at the sunfishes in KY and there's nothing like that around here, but I read that there are 3 subspecies of bluegill in Florida. I bet you slay those things during the spawn though. Good work on those fish and keep 'em coming!

My friend got a monster bluegill, not quite as big, last time I went in my boat. It also came on a crankbait.
My dad caught a 9 1/2 incher on fly last week, too. I went back to the same spot a day or two later, and there were a bunch that size swimming around. They are really coming around down here, not that I target them. All three came from different spots. I wish I could see a picture of that texas. lol Hopefully I can get some sleep now. |
