Big Baits = Big Bass??
New to the forum! First Post..
What baits do you use to go after the 10-15 lb Range?? At my local spot I see atleast 15lb bass swimming by the boat in about 15ft of clear water. I've been pullin swimbaits by them but I cant get them to even look at it. |

It depends on what time of day it is . I would personally recomend the 5 in. banjo minnow. Even if you dont catch the big boys, your going to catch a LOT!

If I saw a 15 lb bass swim by I'd either drop a 1/4 stick of dynamite or dive in on top of it myself!!! Someone here will give you the right advice so when you catch 'em be sure t put up some pictures!

Welcome to the forum!
Theory has it that big baits=big bass, and they do, but the Texas State Record-18+-was caught on a crappie jig, so go figure.

Welcome to the Nut-House Doc-H!
I'd say go with swimbaits, but don't try and go for the ones swimming by your boat, just cast it ahnd reel it back. And remember, don't give up on it if you don't catch anything, swimbaits won't get you number, but they will get you quality. This is a great place to get swimbaits. (plus free shipping on orders over $50) whih is not hard with swimbaits (or any baits ) http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/brandswimbaits.html BB

Thanks Guys! I don't hunt! Its LAME!
So these monsters are in 15-20 feet of very visable water. Its a swimming and fishing rock quarry in Livermore, Ca called Shadow Cliffs. So its early morning 6am - 8:30am, Not a whole lot of structure or weeds. This one guy caught the Lake Record 18lbs in Feburary of this year on a Huddleson Swimbait. Heres the pic: It looks like a goddamn football!!! This is John Barker, with the new Shadow Cliffs lake record bass, of 18.1 lbs ! |

F*** that a big f***ing fish just stick with it man clear water go with natural colored
baits ie, your greens browns and what not or a white spinner with tandem willow blades you could either slow roll it or fish it fast what ever works good luck on getting those hawgs

Is the bass just sitting still or constantly moving in a large area?

F*CK IT! I'm getting 6" & 8" Huddleston Trout Swimbaits and fishing this spot every morning before work until I catch a 10+ pounder...
They're constantly moving slowing around. The really big ones fly solo but I see groups of 8 - 10 lbs hanging out together. |

If you can get a school like that to bite, you'll have it made. Try differnt swimbaits and such till you find one they like. If they always see the same one, they may not bite it. Try something different, something not many people on the lake use.

if you're gonna go early morning start with a buzzbait in wht/chart if might get you that strike you are looking for or give a drop shot a chance with a 3in minnow on it or you could throw a d10 shad rad at em

If they're not bitin your big swimbait, two things may be wrong.
1) If you can see them, most likely they can see you. If you know where all these fish hang, troll within 40-50 yards of them and cast, not 'drag' your swimbait. 2) They may be pressured. Go finesse with a weightless wacky-rigged 6" Senko or big bait like a tube or creature on a drop-shot. Try to match the hatch in clear water as well. This should help, -Buzz |

buzzwing i wouldnt call a wacky rigged 6 inch senko "finesse" and they would not bite that anyway these fish are massive they eat massive food i.e. big swimbaits and big worms. just fish the crap out of them and they will eventually hit something

I'd try supersizing some finesse tactic also. Shakey head with 1/2 and 3/4 ounce jigs and the longest Senko type bait you can find. Also dropshotting with heavier weights and larget plastics may be another option.

Definatley! There are times were small baits catch big bass better, but for the most part large baits will out produce. It really how nature works, its called optimum foraging theory. Most animals will eat prey that give them the most energy, and the most energy with the less or least amount of energy expended to get it. Good fishin
