Default The rigs..

Well, as the year comes to a close, I feel I need to spruce-up on "the rigs",C-Rig, T-Rig, Wacky Rig, for the upcoming spawn and 2008 bass season. Let's start out with the rig I am most unfamiliar with, the Carolina-Rig:
1) I've never used this rig
2) What line do I need?
3) Where do I fish it?
4) What baits do I use?

Texas Rig:
1) Used this many, many times; caught fish
2) What baits have you had best luck with?
3) What is the best spots to fish it?
4) What terminal tackle do you usually use?

Wacky Rig:
1) Used it a few times; caught fish
2) What size hooks do you normally use?
3) What baits?
4) Best spots to fish?

-ll

Thanks in advance..

C-rigs: 17lb flourocarbon, due to it's lack of stretch and sensitivity w/14 lb flourocarbon leader.
Use this bait in open water, especially around rocks, and underwater stumps.
4" ring fry in green pumpkin
Tx rigs: sweat beaver, red shad worm,in summer use a 10" red shad worm.
Tackle: use a 7' mh rod.
17 lb test flourocarbon.
Wacky Rig: red shad senko, 2/0 wide gap hook,12 lb-14 lb test flourocarbon.
Grass, shallow water.

O.K. Guys, as for the C-Rig, I think I am starting to understand. The rod I have for C-Rigging and PNJ's is a 7' MH St.Croix w/ a Pflueger Supreme reel. Would 14 pound mono/flouro be sufficient for fishing C-Rigs and PNJ's? I mean, up here in Michigan, the lakes I fish anyway, have absolutley no stumps/heavy flooded timber, so heavy braid is not needed. Also, what line would you reccommend for PNJ's and C-Rigs - Mono or Flouro?

LL, that rod will do the job quite nicely. I'd recommend braid, though. Here's why:

When C-rigging you are using a heavier weight than you would in most cases on a T-rig, which means you will have longer casts. The braid will make it easier to feel a hit, and make it MUCH easier to get a hookset because it has no stretch. Use a fluoro leader and you are good to go.

Same with a jig-you have to set the hook hard, and the no stretch is a big asset. If you are worried about line visibility you can add a fluoro leader on that, too.

senkos and wave tiki sticks are great baits for wacky rigging. they have a great shimmering action as they fall through the water and sink pretty slowly. You can also affect the sinking time by using heavier hooks. Sometimes it makes a difference, sometimes the bass will just hammer it no matter what! In clear lakes, I find that natural and darker colors work a bit better but having said that, I caught a few on a bubblegum colored tiki stick in the late summer (don't you love when your kids buy you some baits...lol - my 4 year old daughter thinks pink is the ultimate fishing lure color)

What type of line(braid-wise)do you reccommend for the jigs and C-Rigs? I was wanting to maybe try Fireline or Fireline Crystal. Good choice? Any other ideas?

You're gonna get 60 different answers from 58 different fishermen. Three will say PowerPro, the rest will be different. I'd listen to the guys about the PowerPro.

I ran Fireline Crystal this year and while it was good, it was not as supple as PowerPro. Also the Fireline frayed and broke on hooksets after quite a bit of use (not from abrasion) and PowerPro doesn't seem to wear out, only to lose its color.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to try Gamma 14lb copolymer in clear-blue color. I've had luck with it before, so it can't hurt to use what is proven; only $10.95 too.

hey lunker,

if your looking for a lil bit of timber, come just north a bit. we have found some decent lakes in oakland and genesee county with some sunken timber. surprisingly in some places too. i do know that the addition of senkos to our everyday fishing increased our catches alot. for the past few years, we were always hard plastic, topwater, spinner baits possibly. this year we couldnt put the senkos down. fished them texas and wacky, and caught fish in areas we never had luck before. as far as thinking about what i am doing out there, lol, are you kidding me, i think all week long, why do i want to do it on the weekends too. i have a few colors up here that seem to work all the time, if they dont, experimenting is fun stuff. i look forward to you dropping me and wags a line and meeting us up here for a day of fishing, and i am sure we would not mind heading your way also.
