There are quite a few that do fish like that, but I ain't one of them. They call it noodling.

I've done it a few times but I don't much enjoy it. It hurts like heII. Plus, I'm always afraid there will be some other animal in the barrel other than the catfish. I personally know a guy that got a snappin' turtle when he reached up under the bank along the Wa****a River. He honestly thought he lost his fingers at first.

I've done that, for shrimp in india... The villagers think of it as nothing. Now catfish, that is hardcore.

Been there, done that, lost plenty of skin. We used to fill up 2-3 of the big 48-qt coolers with eating size kitties, 3-6 lbs. Every now and then, we'd latch onto a big boy (or girl, I guess) like these. Or they'd latch onto us...whichever. My PB is 35 lbs, but the guy whose boat we would use has caught some huge flatheads, the biggest was 67 lbs.

I like the reel, rod, bait, and relaxing in the boat for me. You can keep that fishing, I'm sticking with the normal type of fishing.

Sticking you hand or arm for that matter into a barrel or whatever in water you cant see 1 inch into rates right up there with walking through a mine feild while blindfolded.
