Default fishing for fun

I just want to fish for the fun of it. Is there a way to find out were tournaments are happening so I can avoid them?

Welcome, Bug!

A lot of it is where you are located. Big city = Tourneys; Little city = Few/No Tourneys.

Where are you located? Many people on here could probably help you out if you provided a tad more information.

Watching tournaments are fun, but if you want the solitude, your state's fish and game department should have schedules for tourneys. I've learned that even when I thought I had a small spot alone others come along. Usually I make quick friends with them though, and we share stories and other secret spots. I think it is fun watching others catch fish, but I've had my days when I just wanna' enjoy nature alone. Look on a satellite map and find small ponds and ask landowners permission to fish them. That's been my favorite route for secluded fishing.

bug - check with whoever runs the ramps on the bodies of water that you fish. They should have an idea of who is holding tournaments. Also look online at the local tournament series schedules and see.

Here in NY ,The bass clubs has to notify the State on when and where they are having a tournament because like everything else here you have to pay extra per person and per vehicle and if you pay extra to hold weigh ins within the boat launch.Alot of the bigger clubs bought a pontoon boat to have as a weigh in station to avoid the extra cost.Check with you local bass clubs or better yet join a bass club and fish a few times a year with them to meet new people to fish with outside of every tournament.Just because there are no tournament that weekend doesn't mean those people are going to sit home without going fishing somewhere. Thanks everyone for the info. I love this website. I live in Newark, Ohio.
It's about 30 mi east of Columbus. I don't fish tournaments because I don't
know what I'm doing yet. I just got by boat last july.

Welcome to the forum! All the more reason for you to join a local club. Preferably one that has a draw team format. Sign up for the club tournaments to go as a non-boater so you can learn from the boater you are fishing with. Great way to meet folks, learn techniques, and learn new water! After the first year you will be amazed at what you've learned!
