Question about knots.
Since i've decided to use something other than monofilament on a couple of my reels, that got me to thinking about the knot I use and would it work with these types of lines? I've been to a couple of websites about tying knots and even watched a bunch of videos called "knotwars" and I noticed that none of the knots i'd seen were what I use....so I drew up a picture of the knot I've been using for years to see if ya'll recognize it? Don't recall where I learned it but I've never had a knot failure with it using mono....do you think it'll work for braid or even flouro? For connecting two different lines i've always used the Uni to Uni knot....will that still work ok for tying a flouro leader to braid?

66, the uni-to-uni will work fine. For tying to the end of the line I use a Palomar knot. Simple to tie and one of the strongest you can use. There is a knot guide in the New To Fishing section that will show you how to tie it.

That was the first knot that a buddy taught me and I use only that knot when fishing mono. It, too, has never failed me. Great knot and very easy to tie.

For tying a fluro leader to braid, you could use the uni to uni knot but I use the J-knot. I have never had a problem with the J-knot. I only use the uni to uni knot when tying my braid to the mono backing on the reel.

The three knots I use most are Trilene Knot, Uni Knot & my modified Perfection Loop Knot.

uni to uni works.
Double surgeon is a good one. This is another really good one for braid to mono http://www.anglers-outlet.com/slim_beauty_knot.htm IMHO - for bass fishing, I don't use a leader. Just tie the braid right onto the hook/eye. Last edited by hookup; 12-03-08 at 11:32 AM. Reason: addition |

Also, using a leader of up to 3 ft in slightly stained to clear water, has time and time again increased my hookup ratio. |

Your pretty much tying a Jam knot. I wouldn't worry about any other knot. I tie that same knot for everything I use. Works for fluoro, braid, mono... It's the best knot I've ever used and it's proven stronger than most. It's been very good to me with fluoro and that's what I use the most for line!

I was curious to know if the knot I'd been tying all these years would be good enough to use on other lines and it sounds like it is.....thats good....i'll keep using it.

I use palomar for braid, and sometimes fluoro. And improved clinch for fluoro and mono. Albright special for 99% of line to line.

I think the polamar is best. It's so easy with a little practice you can tie it in the dark. And at the same time it's got double line through the eye and is really hard to untie.

I'v.e used a trilene knot for 30 years, tournament fishing, pre fishing and just fishing for fun and have never ever had my line to break at the knot.
