Palamor knots vs Improved clinch knot
Seems that a palimar knot would break just as easily as a regular knot with one line through the eyelet of the hook. Two lines vs. one line, if one line breaks then two lines will break.
Was using a palimar until I went back to using an improved clinch or a quik tie kot. After all it's alot quicker to tie a single line than a double line. Now I use an improved clinch or a quik tie all the time. The way that I used to do. No problems then either.

I use both knots and I haven't noticed a difference in one being better than the other.I do tend to use a polamar with fluorocarbon leader material rather than the clinch knot, but its a personal preference.I know alot of fisherman here use the clinch knot on fluorocarbon without any problems. I have always used the improved clinch knot... Never had any problems with it! (Even on Flouro, the key is making the know really wet when you slide it so it doesnt heat up the line, which makes it weaker.)

palamor knot is used more w/ the drop shot technique where as the improved clinch knot is used more w/ the c-rig and t-rig.. p-knot will allow the hook to stand out horizontally more easily than that of a improved clinch.

Last time out I tied a clinch with braid. Watched a spinnerbait sail about 100 yards across the pond. Sometimes I double the line through the hook when I tie a clinch.

Palomor knot is the only not you should use when tying a lure to braid. Most others will have your bait doing the above ^^

I use both, depending on the lure. For things bigger and bulkier baits, I do not like to waste line with the palomar's loop going over the lure so I use the Improved Clinch knot. For things that won't waste too much line or when my hands are frozen, it's the Palomar. Both are very easy to tie. Sometimes if I feel like it, I'll use the trilene knot.

I personally use the Trilene knot (double loop through the eye of the hook or lure) it's basically the same knot as a clinch just the added loop adds knot strength.

For years I worked for Berkley and did many many consumer shows. We had always brought a very accurate knot meter which test strength of the knot.
In most cases the improved clinch knot was the first to break. Using 10#XL an imroved clinch would average a little over 8# at break. The palamor would 11# or better. At the time the break strength of XL was about 12# +. XL is not an IFGA line so it could exceed the rule limits although it was the thinnest. The palomar is doubled at the base giving the line a cushsion to land on under pressure. BERKLEYS TRILENE KNOT was the best of all. It was also easy to tie. Today the super braids need the double cusion as these lines can cut into themselves. Most makers will suggest the knot that works the best. No one likes a break off on any fish. exceed 11# or better. At the time the break strength of XL was about 12#+. XL is not an IFGA line so it was made past the 10# class. Although thin in diameter it was a top line for its time. The palimar |

When I first started fishing all I used was the Trilene knot. It's fairly reliable. Now I use the palomar for dropshotting and braided lines and the uni-knot for everything else. I will never tie the improved clinch knot. In-Fisherman gives strength ratings for various knots and the palomar and the uni-knot are tops.
