Hey, I'll be prayin real hard for both of y'all. I'm sure everythin'll work out just fine.
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walkthrough the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. -Psalm 23

John called me at 2:00 this afternoon (central time) and said they just started the procedure. They told him she wouldn't be out till this evening, maybe 7 or 8 o'clock. He'll call me either tonight or tomorrow with more news.

Well, hopefully we will hear something soon. Keep up the prayers folks. If the surgery is expected to last 4 hours or so, the mrs should be in now or getting ready to come out. God give them all strength.

Just got off the phone with John 2 minutes ago. He said the surgery had a few hiccups. It took 4 1/2 hours instead of 3 hours like they had expected. The surgeons put in Lisa's new kidney and stitched her up, but she started clotting around it. They had to take it back out and start from scratch 2 more times, plus give her some blood thinner, before they could sew her up for good. From what John says, her body was trying to reject the kidney, and started fighting against it like it was a foreign body.
She's resting ok now. They've got her on the blood thinner and some anti-rejection medications for now. They'll get back some test results tomorrow that should tell them 100% whether this was just a speed bump in the road but now we're in the clear, or if she's going to need to stay on the meds. They're very hopeful that this was merely some short-term complications and that there won't be any long-term problems. Lisa's walking around some and is in good spirits. The donor is fine, resting comfortably (relatively speaking, of course) and may go home as early as Tuesday. I guess it could've gone smoother, but all in all it worked out ok. Prayer works... |

Thanks for the information. Keep praying for her yall. These things normally dont go without a few hiccups.
Did the kidney take hold the last time? Was it clotting around it, cause you said they tried a couple more times.

Yeah, sorry. The kidney did ok on the third try with the blood thinners. It's in now and doing all right. The tests they get back tomorrow will tell the whole story.

Ok, talked to John again this morning. He said that Lisa's creatinine level(something like that) is down to 1.5 or so. I'm not even sure what that is, but he said that before she got the kidney, it never went below 2.5. So, apparently the new kidney is doing what it's supposed to.
Aha...good old Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatinine I even spelled it right. Who woulda thunk? The tests they're constantly running keep coming back positively, so everything looks good so far. She's not completely out of the woods yet, but so far, so good. I actually got to talk to Lisa for a minute. I wouldn't have known she had surgery by the way she sounded. She's in great spirits. They're hoping to get her out of the surgical ICU and into some kind of little apartment/condo/living space thing there on the hospital campus by late this week sometime. John thinks he might be able to go to the house on Saturday for a while if she does. More news as it becomes available. |
