Default Jerkbait tip

Guys, I just read this and thought I'd share. This time of year we get a lot of questions about jerkbaits, and this made perfect sense:

Think of a jerkbait, and fishing a jerkbait, the same way as a popper, except it is under water instead of a topwater.

Think about it: You fish a popper with twitches and pauses and vary the retrieve depending on what the fish want. You fish a jerkbait the same way!

Makes a lot of sense to me!

I have never thought of it that way. Good point.

That is a good way to think about it. That's a really good tip for people who might not be used to fishing jerkbaits but do fish poppers, or vice versa.

Great advice Reb. Many years ago my father and I fishing Lake Tarpon in Florida slayed the bass for 3 days using jerk baits and jointed Rebels, "broken backs" as they called them, fished exactly as you described.

Thanks for the insight REB. Hope you don't mind but me sharing this on your post. recently I purchase Stacey Kings 3 DVD set, he made a good point about Jerkbait fising. He said, "A jerkbait is not a type of lure rather a style of fishing. You can use a lot of differnt lures as a Jerkbait"

That is very interesting indeed. I have shyed away from jerkbaits in the past, but I may have to try them now and fish it like a popper and see what happens.

Pretty much. I fish jerkbaits a lot more aggressively though. A big, 5 foot rip will sometimes trigger some strikes with a jerkbait, but try that with a popper, and you're gonna have to dodge it!
