Fiberglass pole anchors
Anyone using a shallow water fiberglass pole anchor? Was thinking of getting one. Gander Mt and Cabelas has them. I like the looks of the two piece anchors. If you have one do you like it and does it work ok?

I was going to get one ... tried to make my own instead. Mine worked pretty much like the "official" one is supposed to. I didn't like it. Two problems:
1) In a lot of places, the bottom was too soft. Even though it LOOKED shallow enough, by the time I got a "bite" and felt it would hold me, I had my hand a foot or so in the water. 2) In really shallow water, it stuck so far out of the water that it was in my way for casting and fishing. If you get a 10 foot one, and the water is 5 foot deep, hard bottom that you can push the pole a foot into, that still leaves 4 feet out of the water, and maybe 3 feet above boat deck. When I wasn't using it, it just took up room in the bottom of my boat. I don't recommend them. |

That would be a problem with 4 or 5 feet sticking up in the air.

It's not a BAD idea.
Works well if you can get the t-handle down to boat deck level. Just seemed to be the exception, not the rule. It's either too deep or too shallow to be truly effective. |
