Default Wacky gas gauge

Well a new season starts a new list of minor issues! When I put the boat up in the fall I had about 1/2 tank of gas. But when I went to get her going, the gauge read empty. I put 10-12 gallons in and it read full. After some running time out on the water, it seemed to be coming down, but then later pegged at full and stuck there.

Any ideas on what to do about gas gauge issues?

Floats may be "water logged", install new ones.

abby
Is that the L shaped fuel cell?

Look under your seats the cell is normally there and almost every company has access to the pump.. If not you will be forced to empty the tank and un bolt it -4-8- bolts- and I will tell ya it is NOT fun..

zook

I could be wrong (happened once b4!) but I'm pretty sure I have a molded in poly tank...I dunno where I'd be unbolting a gas tank in this glass boat??? and I'm pretty sure there's no mo jo under the seats.
I'll confess I haven't dug in there in the 'trunk' to see where wires may be going to a sending unit...(soooo confused and hoping this isn't yet another floating hole dollar issue)... just hate to be out on the water with no idea how much fuel there is left.

You probably won't have to un-bolt the tank abby. IF i am right, you can take out the float from the top. That is how they did mine, watched them do it. But i have a cajun, yours may differ.

Well tonight I was installing the new TM inline fuse and just for kicks, turned the key to on (not start) to see what the gas gauge read. Needle bouncing all around with boat stationary. I'm thinking maybe loose wire or bad connection somewhere but just guessing.

Well I think I've found a deck access port partly under the rear bench and trunk area - gonna have to pull the seat back panel to open the trunk and expose the port - then unscrew and peak in there to see what's there to see.

Sounds like the ground wire on the sensor is corroded.

Thanks capt, I'll be on the look out for that...just gotta have the time to tear the boat half apart to access that deck port and have a look see.

Well, I got a peek at the sending unit from an access panel in the rear. Couldn't get in through the deck port as they put it smack under the trunk back and damned if I can figure how to get it off w/o a sawsall! - anyway, the ground connection on the sending unit looked good but I have a pink and a green wire connected to the other wire from the sending unit with a mass of electrical tape. This throws me off cause I wasn't expecting two wires there (just the pink sending wire) = not sure why there's a green wire there two.
Gonna come back on the w/e and unwrap that tape and see what's what. Gonna be a bear to replace the sending unit if it comes to that cause I'd have to remove the port that's trapped by the back wall.
