Default Daiwa Millionaire-S

Has anyone used one of these? Any opinions on this as a budget cranker?

All men to their own, but that is gonna be a big humdinger of a reel. I wouldn't mind having it for cat fishing, but IMO it is going to be bulky and heavy once you get 200+ yards of line to top it off. It is the same size as the Calcutta 400.

Yeah that's a huge reel. If I was you, I wouldn't waste my money on a Millionaire/BCX or any other $40 to $60 Baitcaster and go to a C3 or C4 ABU.. They are about $80 to $100 depending on where you buy them and the 4600-size is perfect for Bass. They are very reliable and will outlive about any other reel on the market. Save about $40 more and get a C3/C4!

C3's have a 5:3 gear ratio..

C4's have a 6:3 gear ratio..

I, stupidly, passed up a refurb'd C3 for $40 a couple of weeks ago. I hate myself for it. I just honestly didn't know what I was looking at at the time.

I second the Abus if you want a round reel. I have a 4600 c4 and 5600 c4 I use once in a while. I like to use them when fishing bass waters that have large Pike and Musky luking around. I use Low Pro reels the most, but still love my Abu's. If you don't have one give it a try. I think the reel you are looking at is a excellent reel but a tank.

Make sure to look at the line recovered per inch, that's what really matters. If you see a 100.9:1 gear ratio, but only gets 15" of line per hander turn, and an other that's 1.1:1 but get's 75" of line per handle turn, get the 100:1 (gear rations exaggerated of course). But the garica's round reels have a great fallowing for sure!

So do the excelers. never used one, for a long time, but people that use them seem to like them, they also have a new crankbait exceler. May be worth looking at too!

That´s a really big reel, you don´t want it unless you´re fishing for stripers.
