Default looking at a basstender

Okay my dad found a 10'3" basstender in our area for $150.00 dollars needless to say if it's in good enough condition we are gonna pick it up . Now it is rated to take up to a 5hp outboard and my question is should i just grab a couple trolling motors instead , and if I do go that way what type of trolling motor should i get this will be the first boat we have gotten to fish out of so it will be nice to get off the shore . thanks for any suggestions in advance .

Jim

Also I will be on a pretty tight budget for extras like the fish finder/graph , any ideas about were to find those at a good price would help as well

I just recomend whatever trolling motor you can find used, or if you run across as small outboard, and they tend to be in high demand, snap it up. You are looking at spending as much on a TM as the boat itself unless you find a deal.

Regarding brands, Minn Kota or Motorguide are the most likely ones you will find. You want a transom mount motor.

This is one that was recommended to me.

BPS Eagle Cuda 168

They also sell this one that runs off of 8 AA batteries for $20 more. Both models have received good reviews.

Im not sure. On my kayak, I took some PVC and hoseclamps and made a "arm" that extended the PVC over my kayak and then down into the water, where the transducer was submerged. You could probably do the same.

This is going to show my inexperience as a fisherman but can someone post a picture of what a transducer looks like. This will likely help me figure out how to construct something for my pontoon.

We ended up deciding to save a little more money and buy a proper boat rather than something we would out grow by next year . Tjhe only thing that sucks about it is we'll be shore fishing for the rest of the season . But thanks for all the ideas

I have a 10.3 Basstender. I am 5' 8" and 130 pounds and have plenty of room. But whatever floats your boat.

I don't know about up your way, but I have been to a couple of auctions and seen some 12' and a 14' V bottom go for $250.00. I saw a stripped Lund go for $500.00 at one needed new carpet and a motor.
In the meantime I bought a floattube and have yet to try it out. SHould be good for the strip pits I like.

Wish you where around here Jim. No problem setting someone up with a 14ft flatbottom and usually a 25hp motor for les than 500. They are a dime a dozen around here. In fact I have 2 25hp OMC motor;s sitting out back right now I would let go so reasonable you would think I was giving them to ya.
