Default packing trailer bearings

If you have grease certs (bearing buddies) in your boat trailer hubs, do you need to pack the bearings? If yes, how often?

as long as the blue cylinder is sticking out don't worry about it..i put three shots of grease in mine and hauled it 1500 miles..no problem..the newer bearings are ceramic coated beast that will last for a LONG time.. i have over 35,000 miles on the original set..

Are you saying you have 35,000 miles and have not re-packed the bearings?

that is what he is saying pal. hahaha. if the blue cylinder is not sticking out, it ain't busted. if it ain't busted, there is no need to repack.

I'm a rookie but my EZ Loader trailer has Trailer Buddies - as I understand it, When I periodically pull the rubber cover and give the zerk fitting like 3 pumps, I'm replacing some of the grease in the bearing - like repacking with fresh grease on the fly.
I think true Bearing Buddies that pound on over the hub, creates a pressurized layer of grease that prevents water from invading the hub/bearing assembly. Eventually though, one would think that you'd need to pull it apart and repack the bearings with fresh grease.

Edit: Then again, like a transfer case or a transmission, one could say if water never gets in there, it should be good nearly forever.

Thanks for the replies. So, if I'm hearing you all correctly, so long as I keep the hub full of grease by pumping grease into the grease certs then no need to ever pack the bearings.
